ARA-08: Health-Assistance in a Regional Hospital

3. Description of the local project: This project is located in the Eastern regional capital. Koforidua is the capital of the Eastern Region. The regional hospital serves as a general hospital and a referral centre for the entire region.The hospital is a government funded hospital, and volunteers are expected to assist nurses and doctors in the health delivery in the Koforidua municipality. Especially in the beginning, own initiative is essential but once staff recognises that you are active and ambitious, more demandable tasks will be given to you.

5. Special qualifications required: Interest in health and medical issues. Some prior experience desirable (e.g. voluntary work, internship)



Special qualifications recommended: Be a good team-player, be patient, be able to adapt to new working conditions. Be prepared for emotional challanges as volunteers can become confronted with severe illness and even death.



6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer: Provide assistance to nurses and doctors in their day to day duties. Volunteers can rotate every three months, to get a more diverse picture of different sections and tasks in a hospital. You will be expected to learn by observing and will be given more responsibilities over time when showing motivation and own inititive. Actual taks can vary and depend on the project's current need and also the volunteer's own initiative.
